Woodford Reserve is a good alternative for bourbon. Dahlmore is a great single malt scotch that is reasonably priced. Noah's Mill and McCalland are better, respectively, if you can afford them.
My favorite bang for the buck by far, though, is Evan Williams Single Barrel. That stuff is heavenly, and only about $25 or less a bottle.

2012 Cask of Dreams by Glenfiddich. Only 3500 bottles and I broke down and bought one today. freaking amazing...maybe the greatest thing I have ever tasted. My tongue is tired from multiple mouthgasms

I may get ripped for this by the Bourbon enthusiasts on the board but both Pappy Van Winkle and Old Rip Van Winkle are both overrated in my opinion.Don't get me wrong they are both great but they're overrated and not worth the price point in comparison to several cheaper bourbons to my taste.

Agreed and good call I feel the same way about The Macallan scotch. It's good, but not worth the price
