I always keep a bottle of Makers Mark and a bottle of Dewars at home. You should try Templeton, because if you like what you said above you'll love it. Administrative recommendation, as it were. pfffffffffffffffffffttt No, but really smooth, lightly smokey, and tremendous aftertaste.

Templeton Rye is amazing
Makers Mark is good...just basic mainstream bourbon
love the Knob Creek Single Barrel Reserve, but at 120 proof it needs a little water or ice to calm the burn and open up all the flavors. once you do that, you really get some complex flavors

I generally put a single bourbon rock in my bourbon or scotch but the Knob Creek definitely needs the water I had the Templeton Rye at a new place here in town called Bar Louie. It, along with Angel's Envy, are probably my favorite bourbons now. If you haven't tried Angel's Envy, get it get it get it

and going back across the pond... The Balvenie Doublewood is a very good sherry cask finished scotch that you can get for under $50. The Balvenie Caribbean Cask is a bit more, but I haven't heard of anything else like it. Instead of the finishing the aging process of the scotch in former Sherry casks, it is finished in casks that were used to age rum. really good stuff

Actually, the best scotch I ever had was from a buddy who gave me a few glasses of some crazy $400 bottle that he had sitting around, but I'm not paying that much for scotch for myself. Anyway, that's great stuff.

yah my budget isn't that high. order a bottle of the Lagavulin Distiller's Edition. You can find it in the $90 range and it is a damned fine dram
