Jovan Belcher diagnosed with CTE
Former Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Jovan Belcher, who died in a murder-suicide where he shot himself after killing his girlfriend, had signs of brain damage.
He displayed signs of chronic traumatic encephalopathy, a neurodegenerative disease linked to dementia, memory loss and depression caused by head trauma, according to ESPN.
Belcher shot his girlfriend Kasandra Perkins, the mother of his young daughter.
Belcher drove to the Chiefs' practice facility, where he shot himself in the parking lot in front of team officials.
If he had CTE, Belcher's mother and daughter would be eligible for up to $4 million under a proposed concussion settlement.
