Injury report brings good news for NT Dontari Poe
Adam Teicher, ESPN Staff Writer
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Nose tackle Dontari Poe was listed as a full participant in Wednesday’s practice for the Kansas City Chiefs, which doesn’t hurt his chances of playing in Sunday’s season-opener against the Houston Texans.
Recent events surrounding Poe point toward him being available on Sunday. He had surgery on July 15 to have a herniated disk removed from his back and only returned to practice on Sunday.
But coach Andy Reid recently suggested Poe could be ready to play in Sunday’s game. The Chiefs declined a chance to put him on an injured list over the weekend, a move that would have prevented him from playing early in the season or possibly at all. The Chiefs kept only five other defensive linemen, one being developmental prospect Rakeem Nunez-Roches.
Now, in the first game-plan practice of the week, Poe was a full go. None of this guarantees him a spot in the lineup Sunday. If he plays, it will probably be as a part-timer. But that’s more than it looked like just a few weeks ago.
The Chiefs listed 10 other players on their injury report, all as full participants: offensive linemen Jeff Allen and Eric Fisher, wide receivers Jason Avant, Chris Conley, De’Anthony Thomas and Albert Wilson, tight ends Travis Kelce and Demetrius Harris, linebacker Josh Mauga and Nunez-Roches.
That would suggest the Chiefs will arrive in Houston in relatively good shape.
