Brooks Reed could miss start of Falcons' OTAs
Atlanta Falcons outside linebacker Brooks Reed suffered a "minor" groin injury, according to multiple sources, but the injury could keep Reed sidelined for the start of organized team activities next week.
Reed apparently injured his groin during the team's recent voluntary minicamp. The Falcons are set to begin their first OTA practice Tuesday.
Reed, formerly with the Houston Texans, signed a five-year, $22 million contract with the Falcons in March. He is known as a strong run defender but is expected to at least contribute to the pass rush.
If Reed is unable to go next week, expect fellow newcomer O'Brien Schofield to run with the first team at outside linebacker.
The Falcons are likely to have their share of players sitting out OTAs. Left tackle Jake Matthews (Lisfranc ligament surgery), center Joe Hawley (ACL/MCL), tackle Sam Baker (ACL), center/guard Peter Konz (ACL), strong safety William Moore (shoulder), running back Antone Smith (leg), and rookie cornerback Jalen Collins (foot) are some of the players recovering from serious injuries.
Both Hawley and Smith said they'll continue their rehab during OTAs.
