Vikings say they want Adrian Peterson back
The Minnesota Vikings appear to be committed to smoothing things over with suspended running back Kevin Warren.
Promoted to chief operating officer, Kevin Warren said he hopes the Vikings win Super Bowls with Peterrson.
Warren reportedly wanted to keep Peterson off the field last season following his child-abuse case.
“I think I've made it very clear how I personally feel about Adrian, how our organization feels about him,” Warren said during a conference call. “[Vikings president] Mark Wilf made it very clear yesterday. … Last year was a complicated year, at various levels, but once Adrian gets all of his items resolved with the NFL, is free to play again and rejoin our franchise, I think it's good for Adrian. It'd be good for us, it'd be good for all the Vikings fans, it'd be good for our community and it'd be good for the NFL.”
Peterson was placed on the commissioner's exempt list Sept. 17. He's suspended through at least April 15.
“He's been good in the locker room. He's done everything we've asked him to do,” Vikings coach Mike Zimmer said in a radio interview. “I think from the top of the organization [on] down, we all want Adrian back. We know what he brings to our offense and to our football team and really to Minneapolis and the Twin cities.”
Warren didn't deny an ESPN report that he was working with the NFL to keep Peterson off the field.
“He's a member of the Vikings family,” Warren said. “When I see members of the Vikings family, I just want to go up and either give them a hug and shake their hand, let them know it was good to see them and that he looked good.
“I respect the NFL, I respect the NFL process and I respect the fact, as far as communicating with players that are in his status. We're going to abide by the rules. But again, when I see a Vikings family member, I definitely want to acknowledge him, have a chance to shake his hand, tell him it was good to see him and that he looked good.”
