Reports: Rex Ryan set to meet with Falcons, 49ers
Former New York Jets coach Rex Ryan is scheduled to interview for head-coaching vacancies with the Atlanta Falcons and San Francisco 49ers, according to reports.
Follow the league's head-coaching vacancies as positions become open and as they're filled. Chart Ryan, fired Monday by the Jets, is slated to meet next week with the teams.
The Falcons are looking to replace Mike Smith, who also was fired Monday. Owner Arthur Blank is familiar with Ryan because he interviewed him in 2008, the year he hired Smith. The 49ers need a replacement for Jim Harbaugh, who left to become the Michigan coach.
The New York Daily News and New York Post first reported Ryan's interviews.
Ryan spent part of Tuesday meeting with ESPN officials. It wasn't an interview, per se, just a get-acquainted session. He's drawing interest from TV networks, although his preference is to remain on the sideline as a head coach. The Daily News first reported the meeting.
