Falcons' Antone Smith, Jonathan Babineaux ready to return
The 2-6 Atlanta Falcons return from their bye week on Monday with practice scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
When they hit the field, it will be worth monitoring the status of two key players coming off injury.
Explosive running back Antone Smith and starting defensive lineman Jonathan Babineaux are expected to be ready for Sunday's game at Tampa Bay (1-7). Smith suffered a neck stinger during the Falcons' 22-21 loss to the Detroit Lions in London, and Babineaux missed the game with a foot injury.
With Monday being an extra day of preparation, some banged up players could be rested regardless. We'll see if that affects the status of Smith and Babineaux.
Smith, in the last year of his contract, leads the team with five touchdowns, and Babineaux is one of the few players who have been able to show glimpses of generating pressure on opposing quarterbacks.
Offensive lineman Gabe Carimi, who injured his ankle in London, is expected to be fine as well. But the struggling Carimi lost his starting job at right tackle to Ryan Schraeder and seems unlikely to get it back.
The status of receiver Drew Davis also will be worth monitoring. Davis remains on the physically unable to perform list coming off preseason foot surgery. He looked primed for a return a few weeks ago, but never was activated.
The other Falcon on PUP, safety Zeke Motta, will not play this season.
The Falcons also await the return of starting strong safety William Moore, who is on short-term injured reserve with a shoulder injury and could return this month.
