Pat Angerer retires
Hard-nosed former Indianapolis Colts linebacker Pat Angerer is retiring.
"It wouldn’t be fair to the game, the team, my family and my name to continue along this past any longer," Angerer wrote on his official Twitter account. "It’s time to get healthy.”
The 2010 second-round draft pick led the Colts with 148 tackles in 2011
Angerer had microfracture knee surgery last December.
Angerer worked out for the Detroit Lions, New Orleans Saints, New York Jets and St. Louis Rams since the Atlanta Falcons cut him this summer.
The former Iowa standout has dealt with foot and knee injuries that have sidelined him for portions of the past two seasons.
He ended last season on injured reserve with the Colts.
Angerer got his career off to a great start, tallying 88 tackles in 2010 and 148 in 2011. In 2012, that number dipped to 28 and in 2013 he finished with only 63 tackles in nine starts.
When healthy, Angerer was a tough, productive linebacker.
