Umenyiora doesn’t have any Giants secrets to share

FLOWERY BRANCH – Falcons defensive end/outside lineabacker Osi Umenyiora, who played 10 seasons with the New York Giants, doesn’t have any good intel to share with the Falcons players or coaches this week.
The Giants have revamped their offensive line and are running a new offense under coordinator Ben McAdoo.
“I haven’t been able to pick up anything,” Umenyiora said. “I don’t know this offense at all. There’s nothing that I’ve been able to give our team and all of the offensive lineman are different except for Will Beatty. He’s the only one that was around. Everybody else is different.”
He knows the Falcons must start with stopping the run after giving up 241 yards rushing last week to Minnesota.
“We have to be more gap sound,” Umenyiora said. “I think what we are doing is that a lot of people are trying to do too much. Instead of playing the gap they are responsible for, they are trying to play somebody else’s gap and we’re getting gashed. If you’re not sound fundamentally, you don’t have a chance. We haven’t done a good job of that.”
Umenyiora, who doesn’t have a sack yet, said it’s going to be difficult to get to Giants quarterback Eli Manning in their new West Coach via Green Bay offense.
“It’s hard to defend,” Umenyiora said. “We have to do that schematically with his quick throws and his quick passes. I really don’t know what the answer is, but watching it is seems like it’s really frustrating.
“It seems like the pass rushers are not going to be looking forward to going out there and expending all of that energy rushing when he’s getting the ball out of his hands in 1.5 seconds. We have to find a way to affect him.”
