Ravens' Steve Smith used Yelp to take a shot at officiating
Jamison Hensley, ESPN Staff Writer
Leave it to Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Steve Smith to criticize the referees in Monday night's 26-18 loss to the Arizona Cardinals in a way that will probably void a fine.
Asked if it was tough to lose a game where there were bad calls by the officials, Smith said, "Well, everybody has that app Yelp and you have reviews. Two stars, that's what I would review this one on my Yelp. Two stars."
Getting two out of five stars is a poor grade whether you're a restaurant trying to drum up business or an officiating crew on national television. This isn't the first time Smith has been critical of referees. In 2013, Smith was more direct in taking his shots, calling umpire Dan Ferrell "garbage" for missing calls.
On Monday night, there were plenty of debatable calls that went against the Ravens such as an illegal formation after it looked like guard John Urschel declared himself as an eligible receiver and Chris Johnson's 62-yard run that initially appeared like a 5-yard gain after forward progress had stopped.
The Ravens finished with nine penalties for 64 yards, while the Cardinals were flagged four times for 40 yards. Ravens coach John Harbaugh applauded his team's poise and ability to overcome these setbacks.
"You expect [the calls] to be consistent and fair," Harbaugh said.
So, were the calls consistent and fair on Monday night?
"I'm not going to comment on that," Harbaugh said.
