Ron Rivera still confident CB Josh Norman, C Ryan Kalil will play
CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Josh Norman still hasn’t been cleared from the concussion protocol, but coach Ron Rivera remains confident the Carolina Panthers will have both of their starting cornerbacks for Sunday’s opener at Jacksonville.
Charles Tillman, who starts opposite Norman, was cleared from the protocol before Monday’s practice. Norman passed the final phase with an independent physician before Wednesday’s practice.
Starting center Ryan Kalil also appears on track to play. He missed the final two preseason games with a sprained knee, but practiced on a limited basis on Wednesday.
Defensive tackle Star Lotulelei remains in question with a stress reaction in his right foot that was surgically repaired in January. Lotulelei, who missed all four preseason games, worked out on the side Wednesday.
Rivera said he would take it all the way to Friday before making a final decision on his 2013 first-round pick, but reminded he wouldn’t push it if Lotulelei isn’t ready.
Backup fullback/tight end Richie Brockel also is doubtful with a shoulder injury.
