Bears' Alshon Jeffery practices for first time in nearly a month
LAKE FOREST, Ill. -- Chicago Bears wide receiver Alshon Jeffery practiced on Wednesday for the first time since he strained a calf muscle during a closed walk-through on Aug. 12.
Jeffery, who was not in full pads, is expected to be classified as having limited participation on the official injury report.
Wednesday’s events constitute progress for Jeffery, who head coach John Fox referred to as “day-to-day” for close to a month.
Jeffery’s injured calf muscle did not appear to bother him during individual receiver drills that occurred in the portion of practice open to the media.
The former Pro Bowler ran close to full speed and did not display any visible signs of pain or discomfort.
The Bears remain optimistic that Jeffery can play in Week 1 vs. the Green Bay Packers, but he must avoid suffering a setback for that to happen.
The Bears are scheduled to practice Thursday and Friday and hold closed a walk-through on Saturday in advance of the regular-season opener.
In other injury news, left tackle Jermon Bushrod (back) also returned to the practice field.
The Bears held Bushrod out of Monday’s workout to rest the veteran’s sore back; a condition that may linger throughout the season.
