Oakland Raiders begin practice for Week 1 near full strength
ALAMEDA, Calif. -- As the Oakland Raiders begin practice in earnest Wednesday for their Week 1 matchup against visiting Cincinnati, they are doing so at near full strength.
The only player not to practice Wednesday was rotational defensive end Benson Mayowa. He suffered a knee injury in the preseason finale at Seattle on Thursday and has not practiced since.
Starting defensive end Justin Tuck returned to practice Wednesday after missing a couple of weeks with an undisclosed injury. Rookie tight end Clive Walford continued to practice Wednesday. He was on the field Sunday for the first time in three weeks since aggravating a hamstring injury.
In other Raiders’ notes:
According to ESPN’s Adam Caplan, the Raiders worked out worked out receiver T.J. Graham, cornerbacks B.W. Webb and Tommie Campbell, quarterbacks Phillip Sims and Jeff Tuel and safety Phillip Thomas. Webb was the Dallas player an Oakland fan swung a helmet at during a melee during a joint camp practice in Oxnard in 2014. He ended up signing with Tennessee’s practice squad.
Miami signed defensive back Jonathan Dowling to its practice squad. He was a surprise August cut by the Raiders because of a reported maturity issue.
