I mean, I've played in open G before, but I tuned up the Tele to open G, raised the action, put on 11s, and grabbed a slide. Playing with my fingers through the Marshall was pretty sweet.
Then I started riffing on some Stones tunes. Good GRIEF this sounds greasy! I love it! I'm going to keep the Tele set up like this as a Stones n' slide guitar.
This is the song that got me thinking about it…..

I tried to tune my Alvarez to Open G to mess with Romeo and Juliet by Dire Straits and the damn high E snapped while I was tuning DOWN. WTF?

Wow. You just violated the laws of physics!
You know what keeping this Tele in open G means. Yep -- I need another Telecaster.

Put a new high e string on the Alvarez. Wound it the wrong damn way. Had a couple of glasses of wine at my wife's birthday dinner.

So do we think one of these guitars is open G? Or is this DADGAD or some other open tuning? I really dig this song whichever it is. Pretty certain it isn't standard tuning too...

As an aside it is funny when Page tries to sing backup. He is horrible at it.

I managed a trade this weekend that included an ass ugly Danelectro U2 (here's a photo for proof): Anyway, first thing I did was lower the pickups, raise the action and re-tune to Open G. Man, this thing sounds fantastic! As a side note, guess what Jimmy Page used a whole lot to play slide?

Not open G, but here is the answer to your slide question. (Played it in DADGAD often too)

Nice trade too. You are on a roll! I actually am. I was trying to sell the guitar, just like the amp, and couldn't get cash offers, but I finally got a trade offer that included enough cash to make it worth my while to pull the trigger. I also got a late 70s/pre-81 MXR Distortion+, along with this Strat: The Strat is the gem of the bunch. The tuners, bridge and electronics are garbage, but I swapped out the electronics for CTS pots and good wiring, caps and a new jack, and I just decked the bridge to take the trem block and springs out of the equation. It is a monstrously good guitar, especially considering it's probably worth less than $200. The MIM ceramic pickups are incredible.
