....but they also want portable. They love Minecraft, which isn't available for PSP or DS. Do I get them an XBox or Kindle Fires? I'm honestly torn on it because they really want the portability but it seems silly to get them something that won't play their favorite game.
Any other suggestions?

I actually posted a big long reply last night but low and behold it ain't here. So yer getting the condensed version thereof.
As for going mobile, yer really kinda screwed. Forget anything Wii related. Seriously. Zero support. Xbox, don't know enough to comment but it's still a land based item. So is the PS3. Which I actually stay with because of the available games. I have no interest in the PS4 because I don't pay to play. Graphics not with standing (which ain't worth the price IMO. Honestly. I'd stay away from mobile, and just get a good home set-up

I think I've talked them into the Kindle Fire. It will do what they want, and they can get books on it too. We'll get an Xbox down the road.

You do know batteries run about 50 bucks a crack for those (Per Amazon) and unless you've got (I call 'em sagritt lighters) power ports to plug into in the back for the kids to use (Cause games eat those things up)it could be fugly on a long fambly road trip.
Although there ARE cars with gaming systems built in. Just Sayin'. I would not do it but then again I don't have small children. Prolly still would not, just make 'em ride in my rusty crap-heap and make 'em play the Alphabet Game.
