Ryan, Hester earn NFC's weekly honors
Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan and receiver/return specialist Devin Hester were named the NFC's offensive and special-teams players of the week, respectively, for their performances in last Thursday's 56-14 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Hester, of course, set the new NFL career record for return touchdowns with his 20th: a 62-yard punt return touchdown in the second quarter.
Falcons special-teams coordinator Keith Armstrong said if he had a vote, Hester would be in the Hall of Fame following his illustrious career.
"He had an outstanding night," Armstrong said of Hester's performance against Tampa Bay. "It's electrifying. He's got a gift, no question about it. I was happy for him, very happy for him. He's worked his butt off. We were all -- his teammates, myself, the rest of the team and staff -- just happy to be a part of it."
Hester has been named the conference Special Teams Player of the Week 14 times, the most by a returner and second most all time behind kicker Adam Vinatieri.
Ryan, who was also named the NFC's Offensive Player of the Week following his Week 1 performance against the New Orleans Saints, shredded Tampa Bay by setting a franchise single-game record for completion percentage, connecting on 21 of 24 passes for 286 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions. He also set a franchise record with a passer rating of 155.9.
Ryan, who has been named the NFC's Offensive Player of the Week six times in his career, currently stands third in the NFL in total QBR this season.

Hester had to win. It wasn't even close. That dude was all over the place on Thursday.
